{for sale?}

As some of you may know a couple of years ago we had the idea to buy an old house, gut it, and renovate it. So we rented out our existing house, bought an older house with potential, and just went for it! it was definitely an adventure.... but was so much fun as well! we lived in our renovated house for a couple of years, and just sold the house about 6 months ago, and moved back into our previous home. I will have to say that i am getting the itch to renovate again! don't get me wrong, the house that we are in is very nice, and new....but i just love the charm of an older home: the character, architecture, the established neighborhoods, seeing the vision of what "could be", and finding treasures {like perfect hardwood floors hidden under nasty carpet!} There are also so many amazing deals right now! So we are thinking of possibly putting our house up for sale in the spring and see what happens. I know it is a long shot in this crummy market, but a girl can dream right? I have so many ideas, and i would sure love to find the perfect house to try them out on! Here are a few {crappy!} picts of some of the rooms from our previous house and renovation :)

oh wow what amazing transformations!! you have a gift. so so cute. i especially love the kitchen. i love white:) we're waiting to hear back on a short sale house. it's bigger than our rental house now, but definitely doesn't have the same character. seattle is so expensive we can't afford both:) but right now i'd prefer space. i do love the character of older homes though! it's funny.. in our short sale house (which we haven't gotten yet), there are nicer wood cabinets and I asked Dan if he'd die if I painted them cream or white and he's like "yeah! it's nice wood. you're not touching it. :) ha ha. i tend to want to paint everything white. i need therapy.

where are some good places to search for plates? i love them all...

Allegra--i am the same way! i want to paint the cabinets in our current house, but it's the same story:) I get my plates pretty much everywhere--TJmaxx, pier 1, anthro, tai pan, pottery barn--i love me some plates:)

It is way addictive! That is what we had done with our current home. Until our baby makin' started happening and then we decided to stay a while. I hope your house pops off the market for you and you can dive into a reno! Would be so much fun!
Hugs!

I am always drawn to older houses too, my friends think I'm crazy to want a house to make over.

You guys did an amazing job with your home ... love all your decor ... especially crushing on your kitchen ;) You should scope out the market online before making any big decisions, but really it might not be as bad as you think ... If possible you should definintely got for it, it's a lot of hard work (as you already know) but the result is all worth it!

Your home makeover is absolutely LOVELY! Oh, How I love your creative eye and touches! I've wanted a white kitchen for some time now...beautiful subway tile backsplash, open shelving. It will NEVER happen, but a girl can dream! :) Now I want to see your current home. I bet it is also just DREAMY!

Where to even begin??? That kitchen is so spacious and gorgeous!!! I would love to renovate a older home but my husband can't change a light bulb. HAHA. So, I'm afraid to say that I will be living in a planned community...FOREVER! Sigh. I will live through you. Your plate collection is gorgeous!! I'm a plate addict too.

You should do it. Just to see if you have any bites. I loved that house you renovated, you guys did such a good job! We just found out we didn't get that house on the East Bench:( I am so disappointed it would have been so much fun to redo because it had so much charm. I guess I must get over it and move on! Good luck, but really there is no harm in at least putting your house up to see where it takes you right?!

Shar, you really did a great job with that house. I absolutely love your style. I need some design guidance from you for sure. You know, if you're itching for doing some renovation that badly, you can always stop by. ;) I'd love some ideas.

Hey Sharstin! You are an incredible designer! One of your many talents. Will you come over and help me decorate my house??? Nora is growing too fast! Her little face is rounding out! What a doll!

Loved that house.. you really do have an eye for that kind of thing. I'm sure you will get to redo another one in the future and it will be fabulous!

Holy WOW! You guys are good! Love what you've done with the "old house." I really admire people who have enough patience to renovate houses. We've done it twice now, and I HATED the process the whole entire time until I was able to see the end result :-)

NO ONE and I mean NO ONE went with Noel except for you, me, and my sis. I knew I liked you :)

Sharstin said...

i love it danielle! noel all the way:)

Whoa. I just read that comment from Danielle and was intrigued, so I had to see what you were talking about. Felicity?! Love it. I, too, choose Noel. Ben's lame.

Anyway, back to business. You did do a great job on that house. I especially loved your paint choices.

I'm torn on the old vs. new house debate. Love the character, details, and mature yards that old homes have, but I also love big garages, spacious closets, and larger bathrooms. It's a dilemma.

Sharstin said...

for sure libby! there is a trade off. I sure love a bigger closet and bathroom--whta girl doesn't right?

oh my goodness what an amazing kitchen. i am right there with you so wish i could afford an older home that has neat rooms and sll that jazz.

You did such an amazing job with this house! You should definitely do it again. I just love to see all things you come up with.

Oh, do it Sharstin! You have great style and nothing gets the creative juices flowing than an old home in need of a helping hand.

Sherice said...

That is quite an adventure you have been on~ but I am with everyone in you should definitely do it {and then share}:) Love what you did with your old house. I've been feeling itchy lately too. New houses are fun, but you can't do a whole lot with them~ you feel guilty ripping out nice new stuff... what to do?

Oh. My.

When I buy an old and ugly house (cause that's majority of what's available out here for an insane amount of money), I'm flying you and your hubby (and the kids) out to redo our kitchen. And while you're here, might as well help with the rest of the place.

Such a gorgeous kitchen. Reminds me of so many kitchens that I've torn from magazines and saved. Adding this to my "as soon as we buy an ugly house" file.
