{from scratch}

Yes I must admit--I have never made a cake from scratch (always wondered where this phrase came from?kinda weird).... until a few days ago! There really is no exucse--my family on both sides are amazing cooks! I am challenged! Anyways, My fam was coming over for dinner, and I had seen this amazing red velvet cake recipe on Bakerella (love this site!) So I decided there wasn't any crazy ingredients or anything, so I was going to go for it. The cake was delish, easy, and so much fun to make. I should have put more frosting in the middle--but other than that it turned out great. The buttercream frosting wasn't as pretty as fondant, but sure does taste better! Now I am dying to make some cake pops..maybe for easter:)

I want the cake plate. (So pretty) With the cake on top of course. For breakfast. With a tall glass of milk and some sun shining through the window. Yum.

Way to go Shar, did you use your frosting gun? I love Bakerella too, her cake pops are so fun and simple, we make them about every holiday! And you know I love the cake stand since I copied you and bought the same one!

Yummy! You have to ask Grandma Miller about the email she has about cooking "from scratch" it is hilarious! I tried to find it on the internet...no luck.

That looks SO good! If it tastes even half as good as it looks, then you rocked it! And that buttercream icing on top looks amazing.

Yum. I concur that fondant can look prettier, but I honestly don't think it holds a candle to the taste of butter cream. Plus there are ways to make it cute, right?

You should definitely try making cake pops. So fun and really great for the kiddos. That Bakerella is a gem!

Jealous that you went to the zoo. I've had a hankering to go there, but just haven't made the effort.
